Etched Take-Down fixed blade

This is the Take-Down fixed blade with the scales and bolster reassembled after etching. The space behind the handle and bolsters where blocked from the etch by using fingernail polish.

This is a shot of the damascus pattern along the edge of the handle, very affective in contrast to the bolsters and handle material. If you have any questions about constructions please feel free to ask or comment.

This is a take-down knife that I am making for a customer. The blade is damascus that hasn’t been etched or heat treated yet. I will post pictures when done.

The bolsters are 416 stainless and will be engraved. They are attached with two 0-80 screws and held in alinement with four 1/16 pins. The handle is interiour mammoth ivory and will be scrimshawed. They are attached with two 4-40 button head screws. Using this method the knife can be completed then taken apart and etched so the damascus pattern shows all the way around. The pieces can also be sent to various artists to be scrimed or engraved. I will be posting more photo’s later.

Engraved English Folding Dagger

: A closeup of the engraving. When you get this close you can really see the details and mistakes. At one point I resharpened my graver and didn’t try it before I went back to work on the bolster. Learned that was a mistake.Completed English Folding Dagger. This is a folder I just finished for a customer. I have been trying different engraving patterns to see what people like and don’t. Not the traditional scroll, something a little different for an english style folding dagger. It’s something you might see on an old flintlock rifle. The pattern in the blade just seemed to lend it self to something pointy, not rounded like a scroll. Please leave a comment on likes and dislikes Thanks

Customer Custom Folder

This is a custom folder that I just completed, thought you might like to see it.The blade is 52100 forged ball bearing steel, bolsters are 1084 & 15n20 in a w’s twist pattern, Handle is Mammoth Tooth, and liners are titanium that is anodized blue. The rear view you can see the pocket clip for a tip up carry and the finger grip grooves in the backbar and blade.

Once again I have been busy prepairing for the Shooting Hunting and Outdoor Trade show, or S.H.O.T. show as it is called. It is a dealers only show that all the companys in the trade come to and present there product. It is held in various places throught the country but will be in Las Vegas this year and for several years to come. As always I will be attending with Al Mar the knife company, we will set up our booth on the main floor and have many beautiful knives to display. One new product I have been working on this year is customizing there Eagle Classic folder with Elk antler. Now this isn’t just any Elk antler, it is sheds from the Elk Song ranch in Oregon. The top picture shows the donor antlers and the lower photo shows five of the finished knives. They will be availible through Al Mar exclusivly. I will be in Vegas for 7 days so be looking for more on the show when I return. I will try and take lots of photo’s to post so you can get a feel for the show. Texas Ranger’s Set

Knife and Pistol set for Robert Duvall

I was comissioned by the Texas Ranger Ass. to build this knife to be presented to actor Robert Duvall. It is a thankyou for his support of there organization. The knife style is one that you might have seen a Texas Ranger carry during the 1800’s. 52100 ball bearing is the blade steel. Forged from a roller bearing out of a dragline, it has a stainless guard and Ebony handle with stainless pins. The handle is tapered and the blade has a distal taper to it, so it is quick in the hand.

Large California Folder

: Large California Folder

This project was done for a collector in Texas.

Two folders exactly the same except for the engraving. I engraved the Fleur-de- Lis on the top folder and David Drake did the fine English scroll on the lower knife. They have a blade of 52100 bearing steel, 3 1/2″ long, 8 1/2 overall open, bolster, Water Buffalo handles with gold screws, and gold anodized titanium liner that are fully filework in a vine pattern. The thumb stud is also inlayed with Buffalo horn.

The collector does a lot of bird hunting in the hills of texas and wanted something for protection and backup use. He had a pair of boots made with a sheath sewn into the top for easy access.

Ivory in School

Recently My Wife and I had the opportunity to go to the Kindergarden and Preschool classes in out small town. The purpose was to show and explain a little about the prehistoric Wooly Mammoth and the ancient Walrus. Since I use the tusks form both these animals we where able to take some samples to show.

: Amazed

As you can see the kids where totaly amazed by the size and beauty of the tusk sections. The tusks of the Mammoth could reach 16 feet long so we had the kids lay out end to end to equal 16 feet. We also set an alarm to go off in 30 minute which is how long a Walrus can stay under water, and explained that they could swim to a depth of a football field.

Where not sure how much they will remember but you can see from there faces they where delited. There where lots of hugs as we left, I’m not sure who had more fun, use or them. The education of our young people is very important and up to us all.

: First Engraved Large Nomad

This is the Large Nomad with the pattern engraved onto the blade. The backround has been removed on the front of the bolster but the rear has not. It is a long and pain staking process to relieve the backround but the end result is well worth it.

Lightning Strike Bowie

Quite a few hours have gone into the finish sanding, etching, and assembly to get from the final picture in the last post to the finished knife. This knife will be going to San Antonio for the ABS all forged blade Expo. I hope to see many of you there. This Bowie is for sale so if you are interested please let me know. Any comments are welcome.
